Delamain Cognac – The 67 Edition (2022)
£230.00 – £1,010.00The 67 Edition is a Grande Champagne Cognac blended by Delamain's Cellar Master Dominique Touteau exclusively for the Club. We are delighted to follow on from the success of our first edition with the 2022 blend. Created using another XO Grande Champagne, our second edition has been aged in a damp cellar, blended with the same quantity of vintage 67 as our first. The result is a beautifully rounded cognac with more of an emphasis on the rancio and vanilla. On the nose, we find prunes, stewed apricot, Seville orange marmalade and a touch of cloves. On the palate it rings mellow and round, highlighting mature fruit and vanilla before melting into soft leather and a whisp of tobacco leaf. It culminates in a long, lingering finish heavy with rancio and a hint of spice. Presented in a 67 Pall Mall gift box, the cognac can be purchased in varying formats, an enviable gift for any lover of cognac. Please note that we are not able to fulfil orders outside of the UK for this item. The delivery time for large formats is approximately three weeks. Querciabella Camartina Tasting – Tuesday 1st November
£95.00Established by Giuseppe Castiglioni in the 1970s, Querciabella was born from a single hectare of Tuscan hillside and a dream to craft elegant, rich wines not only from Tuscany’s indigenous Sangiovese, but also the signature grapes of Giuseppe’s beloved Bordeaux and Burgundy. Ringed by a sheltering forest of majestic oaks (Querciabella translates as ‘beautiful oak’), the estate now stretches for over 100ha and, under the command of Giuseppe’s son Sebastiano, has long been one of the most forward-thinking producers in Italy, with winemaking following vegan biodynamic principles and all operations on the estate being plant based. Querciabella’s wines have been described as Burgundian in spirit, and this masterclass - led by winemaker Manfred Ing - is a rare opportunity to indulge in a vertical tasting of its flagship wine Camartina, a Sangiovese-Cabernet blend lauded for its nuanced opulence and seductive nature. We will also be treated to one of the purest expressions of Sangiovese in Querciabella’s Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, so join us in the St. James’s Room for an evening of textbook Tuscany not to be missed. The wines we will be tasting: 2018 Querciabella Camartina Toscana IGT 2015 Querciabella Camartina Toscana IGT in Magnum 2010 Querciabella Camartina Toscana IGT in Magnum 2003 Querciabella Camartina Toscana IGT 1997 Querciabella Camartina Toscana IGT in Magnum 2017 Querciabella Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Tuesday 1st November St. James’s Room 18:30 - Glass on arrival 19:00 - Masterclass begins 20:30 - Masterclass endsRead morePlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 48 hours before the event. Live From the Vines: Villa Maria
Hosted by Oliver Powrie, Emma Jenkins, Jessica Bell, Paul Robinson, Richard Painter & Patrick Materman As one of the key protagonists in New Zealand’s Sauvignon Blanc phenomenon which lead to such a dramatic tilt in the wine landscape, it’s hard to underplay the imprint of Villa Maria. However, Villa Maria’s story and sheer scope of its practice is far more nuanced and textured, as revealed by Emma Jenkins MW, along with Villa Maria’s chief viticulturist Ollie Powrie, head of winegrowing Patrick Materman and senior Hawkes Bay winemaker Richard Painter. This red-only masterclass features library vintages as well as releases from its Reserve range (which only see the light of day in select years), before culminating in a multi-vintage showing of its iconic, Bordeaux-shaped Ngakirikiri; a wine which palpably demonstrates that, 60 years after its birth, Villa Maria continues to lay down markers. Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Gimblett Gravels 2002 Library Release Cabernet Sauvignon, Gimblett Gravels 2009 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2013 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2014 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Gimblett Gravels 2015 Ngakirikiri, Gimblett Gravels 2018Read more -
Live From the Vines: Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
Hosted by Jane Anson & Nicolas Glumineau Universally regarded as one of the so-called ‘Super Seconds’ and with Latour as next-door neighbour, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande rubs shoulders both figuratively and geographically with Bordeaux’s First Growths. Its standing has been centuries in the making, during which time it has rarely changed hands, the most recent chapter beginning in 2007 when it was acquired by Champagne Louis Roederer. In conversation with Jane Anson, incumbent CEO and winemaker Nicolas Glumineau sketches out the rebirth of an estate whose reputation was founded on the acumen of a string of notable women whose influence reverberates to this day. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2018 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2016 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2014 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 2006 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 1996 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac 1986Read more -
Live From the Vines: Henschke
Hosted by Stephen Henschke, Prue Henschke & Richard Bampfield MW We enter at sunrise in Barossa’s Eden Valley, where the Henschke family has been making wine since Johann Christian Henschke planted his first vineyard in the early 1860s. Here we meet fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist Prue with our host Richard Bampfield MW, as we discover their innovation and sustainability led approach in the vineyard. We learn how they preserve the genetic heritage of their oldest vines, through the implementation of an inspiring nursery program, mindful of their roles as custodians of the land, nurturing it for future generations. Live From the Vines: Royal Tokaji
Hosted by Kovács Adorján Zoltán, WD & Zsofi Kiss In little more than 30 years, Royal Tokaji has risen to and long since secured its place in the upper echelons of great sweet wine producers. Tokaji is a capricious beast that hinges on several climatic stars aligning, not least the ethereal misty mornings which merely hint at the wine’s enigmatic nature. Bringing clarity and insight, 67 Pall Mall’s Assistant Head Sommelier, Zsofi Kiss, is joined by Royal Tokaji’s Winery Director, Kovács Adorján Zoltán, to showcase a handful of its sublime creations, including its rarest and most singular of wines: Essencia. Deep Dive Bordeaux: When is your claret ready to drink?
Hosted by Jane Anson & Richard Bampfield MW For many of us, the prospect of opening a classed-growth Bordeaux goes hand in hand with seeking out its drinking window according to the world’s finest critics - no one wants to commit wine infanticide, nor take a corkscrew to a precious bottle whose glory days now require carbon dating. However, their palates are not yours, and your own preferences (a penchant for fierce, palate-wrenching tannins, perhaps) understandably carry the most weight. In another unmissable Deep Dive Bordeaux, Jane Anson and Richard Bampfield MW supply you with the tools needed to undertake your own risk assessment, illuminating their guide with a selection of Bordeaux’s finest wines, from a variety of vintages and regions. Also available as a tasting kit to digital members (this is exquisitely interactive television) they lead us through the hallmarks of each vintage, region, and even the château, all the while explaining the key factors in gauging a wine’s evolution. The Expert Series: France – Savoie
Hosted by Wink Lorch & Rosemary George MW Rosemary George MW and wine writer Wink Lorch continue their investigation into France’s eastern edges with this expert sketch of Savoie. This is largely white wine territory although varieties of both hues thrive here, and while grapes such as Jacquère, Altesse and the red Mondeuse are far from international celebrities, Savoie’s Alpine surroundings are argued to deliver a tangible freshness to the wines, with the winemaking suitably well harnessed as to celebrate this innate quality. George and Lorch discuss the idiosyncrasies of this picture-postcard region, ably supported by a flight of hand-picked examples which throw contemporary Savoie into sharp relief. Jasper on Terroir: Morgon
Hosted by Jasper Morris MW, Mee Godard, Louis-Benoit Desvignes & Jean-Marc Burgaud Of all Beaujolais’ 10 crus, Morgon is regularly name-checked as being the one whose wines will not only manage, but indeed require and subsequently blossom from an extended stay in the cellar. Its soils, known locally as roche pourrie (‘rotten rock’) - often tinged blue and laced with deposits from a long-silent volcano – are particular to the area and add the stuffing to Morgon’s brand of the Gamay grape. Jasper Morris MW visits winemaker Jean-Marc Burgaud – one of Morgon’s luminaries – to investigate the nooks and crannies of this compelling appellation, unpick its geological fabric and uncork a clutch of its finest, terroir-crafted wines to help complete the picture.
