Quinta de São José Portuguese Tasting – Tuesday 25th October
Quinta de São José was founded by father and son team, Ruy and João Brito e Cunha in 1999, although their vinous family history dates back to the early 19th century with Ruy’s great-great-grandmother Dona Antónia Ferreira.
Also known as the ‘Queen of the Douro’, Dona Antónia was a pioneering figure in Port production, and through the wines he creates the no less innovative João strives to honour her memory.
Positioned on the banks of the Douro River, Quinta de São José’s sloped vineyards extend 20ha across the Vale do Douro UNESCO World Heritage Site. The unique terroir of blue-grey shale is threaded with traces of tin from long-abandoned mines which contributes to a distinctive profile of fresh, mineral and complex wines.
Join João and renowned Portuguese sommelier Rodolfo Tristão for a trip to the Douro in the St. James’s Room, where they will lead us in a tasting of wines which continue to garner international acclaim.
