A South African journey with Boekenhoutskloof – Monday 3rd February

If one producer could be said to epitomise the modern trajectory of South African wine over the last 30 years, it is surely Boekenhoutskloof.

While the estate dates back to the 18th century, the winery itself was founded in 1994 – the same year as free elections and the end of Apartheid. In the subsequent three decades, Boekenhoutskloof has become a benchmark of the country’s thrilling contemporary wine scene.

From putting South African Syrah on the map (more recently via its foray into the hugely exciting region of Swartland) to rehabilitating Semillon as a premium white variety in the Cape, it’s hard to overestimate the contribution of this Franschoek-based winery. And while it may be best known for the huge commercial success of The Chocolate Block, it is the fine wines under the Boekenhoutskloof label that really showcase the excellence of the brand.

Join us as we welcome Boekenhoutskloof’s award-winning chief winemaker Gottfried Mocke for an exclusive preview of the much-anticipated 2022 vintage, which yielded remarkably elegant and complex wines, and is due to launch next month. Alongside these nascent wines, we will enjoy an exclusive tasting of the same wines from the 2015 vintage – a classic Cape vintage and Gottfried’s first at the winemaking helm.

We encourage you to join us for this rare opportunity to explore the evolution of these wines and the inspiration behind their creation.

The wines we will be tasting:
2022 Chardonnay, Cap Maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde
2022 Pinot Noir, Cap Maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde
