£40.00SUADELA produces wine in Italy’s most loved and respected wine regions, offering the opportunity to enjoy both prestigious and familiar denominations. On the night, we will be joined by Beppe Caviola (Piedmont), Gianni Menotti (Friuli) and Umberto Trombelli (Tuscany & Marche). We are delighted to welcome Daniele Cernilli as our host, the prominent wine critic and one of the founders of Gambero Rosso, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Gambero Rosso Wine Guide for twenty-four years. Four-course dinner with cult Californian Bevan Cellars – Tuesday 29th April
£225.00Of all the world’s great winemaking regions, California – and Napa Valley in particular – is the one where winemaking reputations can be made almost overnight. With the perfect mix of word of mouth, critical acclaim and limited supply, a cult wine is born. Over the last 20 years, few newcomers have made such an instant impact as Bevan Cellars. The brand was founded by former dentistry professionals Russell Bevan and Victoria De Crescenzo in 2005, and has swiftly risen to become one of the hottest names in Napa, its wines prized by collectors and lauded by critics. The wines – ‘sumptuous, beautifully textured reds, rich, intense and full of personality’ according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous – are largely sourced from purchased grapes in carefully managed vineyards, and made via Bevan’s hands-on winemaking in what fellow critic Lisa Perotti-Brown MW calls a ‘pedal-to-the-metal’ style. Bevan himself says he undertook the project with a clear vision of the type of wines he wanted to make. ‘I came at this with the palate of a consumer,’ he says. ‘Managing textural balance via the gentler extraction of tannins is where the real magic lies. Let the vineyard’s voice find its own way while ensuring that the wine is texturally seductive and intense.’ We are delighted to welcome Victoria to the Club for a four-course dinner over which we will enjoy seven Bevan wines, spanning the four Napa-based cuvées that have driven Bevan’s fame and three of the Sonoma-based Pinot-and-Chardonnay line. The former comprise two Bordeaux blends and two 100% Cabernets, and are made at Bevan’s winery at Tench Vineyard, which shares a border with Screaming Eagle and is overlooked by Dalla Valle Vineyards in Napa’s so-called ‘Hollywood’ enclave of eastern Oakville. The menu: Amuse-bouche Baron bigod, potato puff with aged sherry-vinegar cones Starter Rabbit & mangaliza terrine, springs greens, pickled walnut and toasted bri Main Fillet steak with beef-fat carrots, bone marrow and shallots Dessert A selection of British and European cheesesPlease reach out to [email protected] if you have any dietary requirements/allergies. The wines that will be served: 2021 Chardonnay, Bevan Cellars, Bennett Valley, Sonoma County 2021 Chardonnay, Ritchie Vineyard, Bevan Cellars, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County 2019 Pinot Noir, Bevan Cellars, Petaluma Gap, Sonoma County 2021 EE Red Wine, Bevan Cellars, Oakville, Napa Valley 2021 Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard Proprietary Red, Bevan Cellars, Napa Valley 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Tench Vineyard, Bevan Cellars, Oakville, Napa Valley 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, Wildfoote Vineyard Vixen Block, Bevan Cellars, Stags Leap District, Napa Valley Tuesday 29th April St. James’s Room 18:30 – Welcome reception 19:00 – Dinner begins 22:30 – Dinner endsPlease note that once your order is placed, your ticket status will display as “processing” until after the event, when your member account is then charged. Château Brane-Cantenac dinner With Henri Lurton – Thursday 5th September
£325.00Château Brane-Cantenac is, to many shrewd observers, the source of one of Bordeaux’s most under-rated wines. Consistently excellent, in an understated yet assured way, this second growth is the epitome of classic claret. Its elegant, fragrant style speaks of the classic Margaux personality, emphasising charm over power and yielding supremely ageworthy wines. Helmed for many years by the similarly self-effacing – yet supremely insightful – Henri Lurton of the renowned family, the estate has proven itself a stalwart of the Médoc. We are delighted to welcome Henri to the Club for an evening exploring the estate in more depth, over a specially designed menu created to complement the wines, which include such renowned vintages as 2010 and 2000, and date back to 1995 and 1986 – the latter served from double magnum. As an added bonus, Members will get to taste the château’s rarely seen white wine, first released in 2019 and produced from a three-hectare plot. 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon, the wine is partly vinified in barrel, and, says Jane Anson, ‘a little on the wild side but sappy and enticing, walking the line between richness and freshness’. We invite you to join us for what promises to be a very special evening. Menu: Dandelion, confit partridge legs and black pudding Fillet of deer, potato galette and Swiss rainbow chard A selection of British & European cheeses Please reach out to [email protected] if you have any dietary requirements/allergies. The wines that will be served: 2023 Château Brane-Cantenac Blanc, Bordeaux Blanc 2016 Baron de Brane, Margaux 2000 Château Brane-Cantenac, 2ème Cru Classé, Margaux 2010 Château Brane-Cantenac, 2ème Cru Classé, Margaux 1995 Château Brane-Cantenac, 2ème Cru Classé, Margaux 1986 Château Brane-Cantenac, 2ème Cru Classé, Margaux (in double magnum) Thursday 5th September St. James’s Room 18:30 – Welcome reception 19:00 – Dinner begins 22:30 – Dinner endsPlease note, tickets are refundable for cancellations up to 5 days before the event. Jewels of the Northern Rhône with Matt Walls – Wednesday 30th November
£190.00Join Decanter contributing editor Matt Walls for his second tour of the Rhône here at 67 Pall Mall, this time focusing on the north of the region. He has selected 8 wines, one from each of its 8 appellations, to illustrate his talk and compare the different styles that come from these dramatic granitic slopes. He has developed a comprehensive knowledge of the region after having visited all the 50+ appellations of the Rhône, and he is panel chair for the Rhône at the Decanter World Wine Awards. We’ll be opening bottles by established greats such as Domaine Jean-Paul Jamet, Domaine Jean-Louis Chave and Château-Grillet, and also trying some less well known but brilliant estates such as Dard & Ribo, Domaine Franck Balthazar and Domaine de Gouye. A Journey Through Whisky with Sir Colin Hampden White and Simon Aron | Tuesday 9th November
£100.00Join us in the St. James’s Room for a drop of the water of life on Tuesday 9th November, where internationally renowned judge and whisky aficionado Sir Colin Hampden-White and founder of Cask Trade, Simon Aron, will present four exceptional varieties of cask strength whisky, and one rum. This informative tasting will take you on a journey through the appreciation of the art of whisky making, different regions and flavours, the uniqueness of the single cask, and the inimitable finish of an excellent dram straight from the cask. We will taste some of Cask Trade’s favourite independent bottlers, Lady of the Glen, Infrequent Flyers, The Golden Cask, and Mey Selections. Other drams included are the classic Speyside whisky, Glen Moray, with a light and honeyed flavour profile. The Infrequent Flyers 14YO Chinquapin Oak Barrel will also be tasted, an unusual and stand-out whisky from Royal Brackla, one of the few distilleries to have a royal warrant. Our final whisky is the Orkney Islands Malt, from a secret distillery located on the Isles of Orkney, and known for its robust flavour profile and fragrant notes of spice, heather, honey & light peat. Last but not least, the Orkney Islands Malt is another famed and much-adored whisky by the team here at Cask Trade. This particular bottling is matured in a First Fill Sherry Butt which we think suits the Orkney flavour profile superbly. The whisky is from a secret distillery located on the Isles of Orkney, known for its robust flavour profile with fragrant notes of spice, heather, honey & light peat smoke. There are only 2 distilleries to choose from; Highland Park and Scapa, so we will leave it to our Members to guess! In recent years, single cask rum has been favoured by many a whisky connoisseur, so an introduction to this ‘malternative’ will round off the tasting. Spirits to be tasted: Whisky Lady Glen 12 YO – Distilled at Glen Moray Distillery, First-fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel, 57.1% ABV, Distilled: 01/07/08, Bottled: 14/01/21, Cask no: 5586, Bottle no: 102/214. Infrequent Flyers 14 YO – Distilled at Royal Brackla Distillery, Chinquapin Oak Barrel, 57.8% ABV, Distilled: 2006, Cask no: 1803, Bottle no: 41/274. The Golden Cask 10 YO – Distilled at Ardmore Distillery, Bourbon Cask, 56% ABV, Distilled: 06/09, Bottled: 02/20, Cask no: CM259, Bottle no: 141/245. Bone-dry, racy and thrilling. Riesling in the 21st Century with Anne Krebiehl MW – Monday 13th March
£80.00There is so much to say about Riesling, and all this world ever does is talk about residual sugar. So, we have decided to talk only about bone-dry Riesling and dispense with the sweetness discussion altogether, since there are far more interesting things to talk about, such as its incredible ability to reflect site, its international incarnations across climatic zones, its expressions on different soils and its evolution – is it TDN or not? (We are talking about a compound that creates that tell-tale petrol/kerosene character). Join us as we geek out while sipping some of the world’s finest iterations of Riesling, in what will be a sure-fire Masterclass treat for Members. French Alps – Beyond the Ski Slopes Masterclass with Wink Lorch – Thursday 23rd February
£70.00We are thrilled to welcome Wink Lorch back to the Club for what promises to be another exploration of the unknown. Author of Wines of the French Alps: Savoie, Bugey and Beyond, Wink is a wine writer, educator and skier who has been a fan of wines born close to the slopes for decades. She will take Members on a deep dive into these wines which emerge from the rocks beneath the ski runs, often made from ancient, indigenous varieties. A new generation of winegrowers are ensuring that these grapes and the wines made from them are at last being properly valued. Gone are the thin, acidic wines once endured in the après-ski bars of yesteryear. In their stead, we now have myriad styles of wine which always show a touch of mountain freshness, but with added depth, complexity and originality. Members will discover three whites and three reds from different grapes and areas, bookended by a brace of Alpine sparklers, all underlining the quality to be found today in wines from the French Alps. An essential ticket for the curious connoisseur, Wink will also have her books available to purchase on the evening. Tasting through the centuries with Schloss Johannisberg
£100.00Wine has been cultivated at Schloss Johannisberg for more as 1200 years, exclusively Riesling since 1720. Here is the birthplace of one of the oldest and noblest grape varieties in the world. In this informative tasting led by Managing Director Stefan Doktor, Members will learn more about a winery with its first mentions dating back to Emperor Ludwig the Pious in the year 817. The fundament for the top-quality wines is the single vineyard Schloss Johannisberg, a quartzite hill with the size of fifty hectares, facing exactly south.
