Sassicaia masterclass dinner

The Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, on his Tenuta San Guido estate on the Tuscan coast, produced a wine consisting largely of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was called Sassicaia (meaning ‘place of many stones’), and was considered so out of character for Tuscany that from 1948 to 1960, it was consumed only on the estate.

In 1965, the Marquis planted two more vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The new ‘Sassicaia’ vineyard was situated approximately 800 feet lower than the original Cabernet vineyard near Castiglioncello, with the ‘Aianova’ vineyard slightly more elevated and exposed. Eventually, all of the wine produced on the estate came to be known by the name of Sassicaia, and the 1968 vintage was the first to be offered on the open market.

Sassicaia is now widely accepted as one of the world`s greatest Cabernet Sauvignon wines and has made history, being the first single wine to be granted its own DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata).

Priscilla Incisa Della Rocchetta, famous internationally as the ‘Princess of Sassicaia’ and the granddaughter of the late Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, manages the international business of Tenuta San Guido. It is a true pleasure to welcome Priscilla to the Club to guide Members through a Masterclass dinner of one of the world’s most spectacular
