what is volcanic wine?
Saline characters, bright acidity and even stony minerality and smokiness are some of the unique characters of the wines produced on volcanic soils.
When we talk about volcanoes, we usually imagine a dangerous, powerful environment located in remote areas. However, volcanic soils are home to vineyards producing some of the most exciting and unique wines on the planet.
During this Masterclass, we will discover the common features of the wines originating from a variety of volcanic soils, and define some of the common attributes they share. Mouth-watering acidity, mineral salt and pronounced savoury notes are just some of the characteristics of volcanic wines. In addition, thanks to the complex, earthy and herbaceous characters of these wines, they can be very food friendly.
Our Sommelier, Jitka will take Members through various volcanic soils and the wines they produce from Sicily, Santorini, Soave, Alsace and Madeira to name a few. Jitka will also develop on this, showing how lava, basalt, tuff and other aspects of the soils influence the wines we enjoy…
